Michael T. Gibson, P.A.
Michael T. Gibson, P.A., trading as Auto Justice Attorney, is a plaintiff-only personal injury law firm based in Orlando, Florida, United States.[1] Founded in 2009 by attorney Michael T. Gibson, its president and lead attorney, the firm represents people injured in car, truck, motorcycle and other accidents, and families bringing wrongful death claims, across Central Florida and the rest of the state.[5][2] It states that it does not represent insurance companies, corporations or hospitals.[3]
The firm works on a contingency fee basis, offers free consultations, and serves clients in English and Spanish from a single office in Orlando's Baldwin Park area.[1][21] It reports having recovered more than $200 million for clients over 17 years and handling more than 2,000 cases a year; these figures are reported by the firm.[1] Its founder holds the Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rating and is listed in the 2027 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.[13][12]
History [edit]
Founding
Michael T. Gibson has said he became a personal injury lawyer after his mother was hit head-on by another driver in Clearwater, Florida, on 14 December 2000; her lawyer took a contested uninsured motorist case to the courthouse steps.[3] Gibson worked at a personal injury firm for about four years before qualifying as a lawyer, earned his Juris Doctor from the Florida A&M University College of Law, and was admitted to The Florida Bar on 22 September 2006 (Bar No. 26105).[1][4] He began his career as an associate at Martinez, Manglardi, Diez-Arguelles & Tejedor, one of Central Florida's larger personal injury firms, from 2006 to 2009.[3][7]
In 2009 Gibson co-founded Gibson/Simon LLC, a Florida limited liability company filed on 6 April 2009 (document number L09000033481), where he was founding partner and head personal injury attorney. The company was administratively dissolved on 23 September 2011 for failure to file an annual report.[6][18] The Better Business Bureau records the current business as having started on 20 April 2009, which is the founding date used in this article.[5] Gibson's Lawful résumé and the LegalReach directory date Michael T. Gibson, P.A. from 2010.[7][25]
Growth
The firm's earlier office, still listed by the BBB, was at 839 N. Magnolia Avenue, Orlando, FL 32803. It now operates from 2420 S. Lakemont Avenue, Suite 150, in the Baldwin Park area of Orlando.[5][21] On 20 October 2022 the firm named Todd A. Curtin a partner.[8]
Published figures for the firm's size vary. The firm's website describes a team of more than 30 legal professionals, and its team page names four attorneys and 17 staff.[1][2] A December 2024 case study by GuidePoint Security described four attorneys and 22 staff, Martindale-Hubbell lists an office size of four, and The Florida Bar lists a firm size of two to five.[10][26][4] Earlier firm materials, including a press release from web agency Trighton Interactive, cited recoveries of over $10 million; the firm's current figure is more than $200 million.[19][1]
The firm's website runs on WordPress and is credited to Legal Guardian Digital; Trighton Interactive built an earlier mobile website and ran online marketing for the firm.[2][19] Its traffic safety studies have been run with the legal public relations agency law.pr, and its press releases are distributed through 24-7 Press Release and PR Zen.[15][13]
2024 cyberattack
On or about 22 July 2024 an unauthorized third party compromised one of the firm's external IT providers and used that access to reach the firm's computer systems, along with those of several other businesses. Files were taken on 22 July and ransomware was deployed on 23 July, encrypting most of the firm's network.[9] The firm engaged GuidePoint Security for incident response and notified affected individuals in a notice dated 20 August 2024, which was filed with the Vermont Attorney General. Comparitech reported that 17,410 people were affected and that names, dates of birth, email addresses, telephone numbers and postal addresses were exposed.[9][10] GuidePoint published a customer case study on the firm's recovery in December 2024.[10]

Gibson's titles vary by source: the firm's website calls him lead attorney and president, The Florida Bar lists him as managing partner, Avvo and Lawful as founding and managing partner, and a 2022 press release as president and CEO.[3][4][18][8] The predecessor firm Gibson/Simon LLC has been inactive since 2011 and is not the current firm.[6]

Using NHTSA fatal crash data and U.S. Department of Transportation registration data, the study ranked states by fatal crashes per 100,000 registered motorcycles. South Carolina ranked first (158.1), followed by Texas (157), North Carolina (124.13), Missouri (119.8) and Mississippi (116.39), against a national average of 57.59.[15] It was covered by the Charleston City Paper, San Antonio Current, Local Profile and Live 5 News.

In November 2012 he wrote an op-ed arguing that Florida's PIP reform would fail, published on the Orange Observer website;[16] Attorney at Law Magazine names the paper as the West Orange Times & Observer.[11] His Law.com author profile summarizes a byline in which he argued that Florida should abolish PIP in favor of mandatory bodily injury coverage, as in most other states.[17] In 2013 he wrote a series of columns for West Orlando News on PIP law, auto insurance premiums and "accident runners".[7] He is a member of the Florida Justice Association (Auto Insurance Committee), the Central Florida Trial Lawyers Association, the Orange County Bar Association and the Hispanic Bar Association.[7][3]
